Description
Promising new director Tom Quinn makes his debut with a sensitive examination of family, tradition, and loss set against South Philadelphia’s colorful Mummers culture. When Mike (Andrew Conway) and Lisa (MaryAnn McDonald) separate, their children suffer quietly. Kat (Jennifer Welsh) believes her parents will reconcile and keeps the situation secret. Her brother Jack (Greg Lyons) is forced to mediate between parents and shoulder the finances. While Lisa avoids confrontation, Mike is consumed with leading his string band to victory in the annual Mummer’s Parade. Praised by critics and winner of eight film festival awards for best film, ensemble cast, supporting actress (Jennifer Welsh), and director, The New Year Parade is a unique discovery film mixing actors and non-actors, documentary footage and fiction, to closely examine how divorce can effect young people.
